China Escalates Talks Of Trade War After Trump Announces Tariffs

The Trump administration said tariffs on $50 billion worth of Chinese goods would go forward. The announcement came after the two countries had reached a preliminary trade deal. The Chinese government blasted the decision and said “we aren’t afraid of fighting” a trade war. Analysts speculated that the move could be an attempt to put pressure on China, but the move could backfire. China’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said the U.S. was “acting arbitrarily and recklessly.” She went on to say, “China will take firm and powerful measures to safeguard its own legitimate rights.”
